How to Pickpocket in Kingdom Come Deliverance

Pickpocketing is actually one of the many things that Kingdom Come Deliverance will try and teach you during one of its early side quests. Miller Peshek’s ‘The Good Thief’ quest will task you with using your lockpicking skills to steal a ring from the executioner’s house, but you’ll also then get a quick overview of how to pickpocket. You have to complete this quest if you want to live the pickpocketing lifestyle in Kingdom Come Deliverance, but if you’re still a little confused, continue on readin’!

To pickpocket in Kingdom Come Deliverance, you’ll first want to make sure that you spend some time investing in your conspicuousness, agility, and noise stats as this will reduce the chances of you being detected when your knuckle-deep in an NPC’s inventory.

With the necessary stat preparations made, you’ll want to click in the left stick on your controller to crouch or C if you’re on PC when you’re out of sight of your victim. We found you’re best doing this directly behind them. Move slowly behind your victim, and if you see that they’ve acknowledged you or at least noticed the dude randomly creeping up behind them, you’re going to want to move on.

When you’re up close behind them and in position, hold E on PC, X on PS4, or A on Xbox One. Make sure to hold the button, not press it, otherwise you’ll just talk to your victim, and that’s not a good start. When you’re holding this down, you’ll see a small icon appear in the center of your screen and a number will start to rise. We suggest going for somewhere between five and eight, but no more unless you’re a veteran of pickpocketing in Kingdom Come Deliverance. When you reach somewhere in this range, remove your finger from the button.

You’ll now see a larger, second circle appear on your screen with an orange bar slowly reducing and the timer counting down from the number you selected in the previous step in the center. These are important to keep track of, otherwise you’ll spend too long and get caught pickpocketing. This circle is where the real pickpocket section of the process begins. Here, you’ll need to use the left stick or the A and D keys to move left and right through the pouch. You’ll start at the door icon at the very top of the circle. This means your hand is out of the NPC’s pocket in Kingdom Come Deliverance. The ‘?’ icons are the items in your victim’s pocket, so using the keys/ left stick mentioned above, navigate to these. Once they’re highlighted, the panels will flip over, revealing what can be nabbed. If you want to pickpocket the item, press E/ X/ A and it’ll be highlighted. Navigate your cursor back around to the door and press E/ X/ A once again to successfully pickpocket the item in Kingdom Come Deliverance.

This whole process can take a while to get used to, and improving your stealth skill which directly affects your success rate can be tricky, too, especially during the early stages of Kingdom Come Deliverance. If you need to just keep practicing pickpocketing, find a quiet inn and head inside during the early hours. You should be able to pickpocket the owner fairly easily, just make sure to save before entering so you can reload over and over should things go south.
